We had our Market Day today, and it was amazing! The dedication and creativity each student put into their booths was something they should all be proud of. We will continue using their profits from today to purchase experiences around the classroom like picking our Go-Noodle, sitting in the teacher chair, or even sitting next to a friend for the day. Make sure to ask them about their Market Day experience!
Next week is a busy one! Our field trip is this coming Tuesday, June 4th. We will be returning to school around 4pm. Please make sure your child knows who will be picking them up! We go rain or shine, so your child needs to be dressed for the weather. Think layers! Students should be wearing their red NBCS shirts. Here are some field trip packing tips:
* Pack snacks separately from lunch items. Put snack items LAST in your child's backpack so they won't have to dig through everything when it is time to snack on the bus. They will need an AM and a PM snack.
* All backpacks and lunchboxes will be tossed (maybe even shoved) into a large bin. Please don't send breakable items! Nothing will stay on the bus. Food items will need protection to prevent from being squished.
* Please do not send your child with a lot of money for the gift shop. $10 or less is plenty. The shop is small and not staffed to handle 100 kids needing to make quick purchases. many times we don't have time to go in, but sometimes we do. (Many of the items same items can be purchased online for less.)

This week, students were introduced to an upcoming Market Day! Brochures were sent home with information so you and your child can discuss some fun ideas! Market Day aligns with our new Social Studies unit for Economics. They will learn how to be consumers and producers in a market setting; learn the difference between products and services; and gain social experience by interacting with others in a safe, respectful, and responsible manner. Students began collecting "Market Day Dollars" this week through attendance, and awesome behavior. They will use these dollars to spend on the different goods and services their peers will provide! We are so excited!
This week we also wrapped up Unit 7 in Math, and will be moving forward to Unit 8 on Monday. The upcoming unit focuses on Geometry and Arrays! We will also be starting to dive into a new science topic....PLANTS! Students will be learning about what plants need to survive and grow, why some plants may not need as much water, and what seed dispersal is!
A permission slip was sent home yesterday for an upcoming field trip at the Squam Lake Science Center. These are due back by May 23rd. Please let me know if you need another slip sent home.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Market Day: Friday, May 31st
Field Trip: Tuesday, June 4th
This past weekend, Mrs. Mitchell messaged me, Miss Welch, "Tag! You're it," with a beautiful picture of her newborn son, Christopher Thomas Mitchell. From there, myself, as well as the curious koalas, made our transition together. This was a busy week, and our students worked extremely hard. They all have been very helpful in this time of change, and have been so respectful and responsible in the process.
For curriculum, our Koalas completed four different assessments for their reading unit! Reading comprehension, grammar, and informational writing were the key concepts covered. We also wrapped up our science unit of "Material Magic," where students were able to identify the properties of different materials.
Next week, we will resume spelling, reading groups, and we will even start a new social studies unit!
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Happy Mother's Day to all!
See you on Monday.
