We have made it through the first month of school! It went by fast with all the learning that has been going on. This week we introduced our handwriting program. We started talking about the different lines needed to make every letter in the alphabet (there are six types!). We also looked closely at the number grid to find patterns. Our communities unit has come to an end, be on the lookout for our community circles that were created! I am going to be putting in the book order tonight if you have any last minute orders. Click here to order (Class Code is MHMKV)
A Look Ahead at Next Week:
~ Monday 10/1: Last collection day for the Magazine Drive
~ Introducing Online Math Games and Online Reading Games (passwords in their binder)
~ Introducing homework
~ Organizing their homework binder (it will have everything they need!)
~ Starting our first writing project
Have an amazing weekend!
Our first five day week is in the books! In math, we worked with patterns on the number grid and found different ways to represent numbers. We also practiced using calculators and started looking at coins. We had our second meeting with our reading buddies! We also did lots of reading in the classroom and talked about what makes a story a fantasy story. We talked about our Constitution and how laws in our country can be similar or different to the rules in our classroom.
Important notes for next week:
Monday, September 24th @ 6:30pm - Back to school night in my room. It will be information intended for parents. Later in the year (before our performance) will be an Open House where students can show of their classroom to you
Wednesday, September 26th - First collection day for our school fundraiser
Friday, September 28th - Scholastic Book orders are due. For every $25 you spend, you get a free book (that's new this year!)
Have a great weekend!
Pictures are tomorrow (9/18)! We will be taking them at 9:15.
Please send any order forms in with your child tomorrow.
Can’t find the slip that went home in that first week of school huge packet of papers? That’s okay! Just order online:
We really got into the swing of things this week. We started our math lessons and began using number lines to answer word problems and play games. In reading, our theme of the week is about friends helping friends. We even talked about how to make new friends after reading our Scholastic News. We are still trying to find the balance of having fun during the day and being respectful when someone is talking. That will definitely be a focus as we continue our first month together.
A look ahead:
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thankfully the weather took pity on us today and cooled down a bit. It was much more tolerable in our classroom! However, water bottles are still high encouraged. I give cups to any student who does not have one so they can remain hydrated.
While were busy surviving the heat we somehow found time to play several get to know you games, make rocket ship goals, talk about how our words matter during the book Chrysanthemum and discuss what second grade expectations will be this year. We also got to explore a new classroom library, earned a golden whistle in gym, and visited music and art. We fit a lot into the first week and boy did it go by fast!
Next week is another four day week. Tuesday is Primary Voting Day, so we will not have school.
We will also be starting our Math and Reading lessons on Monday. Be on the lookout for a homework sheet to do with your student. It will give some tips about setting up a successful homework spot at home. We will also go over what will be in their homework binder, so if your student has not sent one in yet, next week they will need it. I do have extras for anyone who needs them!
Thanks for such a wonderful first week of school! Enjoy the weekend!
Our first day was a success!
