I can't believe today is the last day of April! Slowly but surely the weather should start getting nicer (and seriously... if we have one more snow storm...)! Make sure to enjoy some family time tomorrow, it is a day off. Today is the quiz for the story you read yesterday. Don't forget to play the vocabulary game before you take the quiz to freshen up those definitions. Also, I would get the story open in a tab before you start. That way you can look back easily!
Have a great weekend and "see" you on Monday! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30

Did you check out the Mystery Science lesson yesterday? If you did, make sure to go take a look in your gardens at home. You'll be looking at flowers and trees completely different after this unit. Anna and I found some stigmas and pollen dusters at our house. Were you able to find any? Did you try to pollinate the paper flower? Feel free to share pictures if you'd like to share with your classmates! We've got even more plant lessons next week! Today for math, I'd love to see where you are with some of the skills we've learned since the school building closed. I'd love to offer help if needed, but it can be tricky when the work is done on a computer. I'm hoping you can try the problems today and let me know how you feel! Have a great day! Office Hour: 8:30 - 10:30 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 I am so proud of everything you guys have done so far. Truly, you are all amazing. Looking at the famous American projects that you were able to create with your families has blow me away. Being able to hear many of you share you favorite facts about your famous Americans had me smiling, laughing, missing you all terribly, and just feeling so incredibly proud. You know your stuff! I'll be handing back feedback on those projects later this week. Keep a lookout! Today is our first Mystery Science mystery! This is a little different than Mystery Doug (man do I wish their names were a little different... haha). They are a little bit longer (typically around a half hour) and our theme is going to be on plants for a few weeks where Mystery Doug switches themes every week. Tomorrow will be the first optional activity. If you choose to either make the paper flower OR go hunting for sticky stigmas and pollen dusters in your garden, please take a picture! Mrs. Erving and I would love to see what you're up to! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10:00 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 Happy Monday! This week we are starting our weekly push out of assignments. This is a way to help families plan and have more control over which assignments they want to work on with their child and which assignments their child can do independently. All reading, science/social studies, and spelling assignments are available (except the spelling test, that will pop up on Thursday). I will post the daily suggested activities each day. However, you can see an outline of the whole week in the Creative Connections. Not sure where to start? Look below! I made it so each suggested activity is due on the day I'm suggesting you do it (yellow circles) so they are easy to find (it's totally fine if you do it another day, this is a way to keep the classes organized). I also made a slide that students can look at and take a peek for the rest of the week (blue arrow). Today we are going to be showing off our Famous American slides! The work everyone did is absolutely amazing. These slides are fabulous and I can't wait for you to be able to show them off! Come stop by at 1pm if you'd like to share or even just cheer on your peers as they share. Mrs. Smith works in Mrs. Grenier and Mr. Mudrick's class. Her son has a challenge for my engineering fans! I can't wait to see who accept the challenge and finds a creative solution for something in their house! You've got all week, and your famous American project is done, so you've got plenty of time on your hands! hehe Have a great day! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10 1:30 - 2:30 6:00 - 7:30 Thank you military families! Want to add your dog tags to the gallary? Email me! It's not too late! Today is the last school day to work on your famous American projects. However, I won't grade them until after presentations. If you'd like to do a small crank up project over the weekend, go for it! Just remember to take a picture and add it to the end of your project. Also I sent out an email with info for an optional Zoom to show of their work. Can't make that but still want to show off your work? Email Mrs. Mitchell and we'll see if we can come up with something! Looking to next week, I'd like to try the recommended weekly/chunked push out of assignments. These are my ideas for push-outs next week: Math - Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday/Thursday/Friday chunk releases Reading - Weekly Science/Social Studies - Weekly Spelling - Weekly Creative Connections - Daily Live Chat Reminders - Daily (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) I want to keep the creative connections daily because they are optional, and it gives the students ONE place to talk for the day. I also want to keep the live chat reminders only on the days that they are offered so it doesn't become confusing. I appreciate the flexibility as we try this new model. I would also like feedback after we work through this for a week if you have just a few minutes. I will email a super quick survey on Thursday and would appreciate any information. I am doing this in hopes that it helps families, so if it doesn't, I need to know so I can go back to daily. Or if it does, I need to know, so we can continue that style of push-outs for the rest of the year. thing I want you to look at and provide feedback on with the Thursday survey is the optional assignments. A few previously required, meant to be fun assignments will be optional (Scholastic News, podcast). Is that too many assignments? Are you able to ignore the OPTIONAL if you don't want do them? Would you rather the optional work was in an enrichment class so it was more organized and won't clutter science and social studies? Would you rather it was only posted on the daily webpage? Do you like it how it is, knowing you only have to do it if you'd like and can ignore it otherwise? This is a sneak peek of what it will look like in your child's to-do: Thanks for your flexibility in trying this new style next week. Just trying to support all families the best I can! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10:00 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 Hello!
There are going to be some changes in how the assignments are delivered next week in an effort to make it easier for families. The biggest change is going to be that most of the required lessons will be given out a week at a time. This will allow families with scheduling struggles to manage which lessons to do on the day that works the best for them. There will also be more two-day suggested lessons, similar to math, in hopes that we can focus on quality instead of quantity. I always appreciate feedback, so let me know how next week goes for your family. The only flexibility with this new schedule that I may need is getting videos created. Thanks to my lovely assistants, it makes it hard to get the math videos done a week in advance. So I am going to try to post the first math lesson on Monday and the second math lesson on Wednesday still. Please be honest on how this works for you. I want to make sure I am doing what I can for all families while still respecting my family time. Feedback will also stick to the recommended schedule. So it is okay if you do the Thursday assignment on Monday, but you most likely will not get feedback until Thursday. I hope that makes sense! That last piece I ask parents to help students with is pacing. By lessening the amount of work, specifically in reading and responding to reading, I am hoping that the students won't be rushing through their answers. I am also looking into doing a responding to reading zoom time, so stay tuned with that! Office Hours: 10:00 - 11:00 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 parents during deployment. You also have a challenge to play Earth Day Charades! If you come up with a good one, and are willing, we may try to guess it during our snack chat. It's at 10am today! (Next week's theme is going to be crazy hat day) How are your Famous American slides coming along? The week is half done. As you finish, you can finally turn in your project! Next week we are going to start science and will be working on science for the rest of the year just like we would have if we were in the building. In third grade, the start of the year is very social studies focused (Michaelmas, Native Americans, communities) but the end of the year is filled with science (plants, weather, magnets). Since Mystery Science has a lot of videos just like our Monday and Wednesday math lessons, we're going to move a few things around a bit so you aren't sitting listening to videos all day. The shorter weekly science video, Mystery Doug, will be on Monday next week instead of Friday. Then, the science lessons will be on Tuesday and Thursday. There is will optional science activities on Wednesday and Friday. I know not everyone will have the materials out there to complete them, but I also know there are a lot of future scientists out there so I want to give you the option!
Have a great day and maybe see you later!! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 A little chilly this morning!
Tomorrow is a very important day for two reasons. The first reason, and the reason our creative connections is working on first, is to support our military families. There is an art activity that gives students a chance to express their thanks for the sacrifices military families make every day. The color chosen to represent this day is purple. The second important celebration tomorrow is Earth Day! We have a fun game planned for your students tomorrow. Have fun with it! Today we have a live math practice. Hope to see you there! Tomorrow is a snack chat. The theme was going to be crazy hat, but let's push that off until next week and do a purple theme tomorrow. Let's purple up for military families! Have a great day, reach out if you need me! Office Hours: 8:30 - 10:00 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 Happy Monday, everybody! In social studies today, we are going to start our last step for the Famous American project. There are two pieces to this. The first is to create one last slide, one that tells where you person is now (alive or dead). If you already wrote about their death, that's okay! Instead, create one more event slide. The second piece is super important. You need to look back on what you've written and make sure it makes sense, uses proper grammar, and is on topic. The last part, staying on topic, is the hardest. Feel free to have an adult at home help you look over your project. Once you're done, hit submit on the Famous American Project Slides assignment (not Step Three, that's just the directions)! You can easily get to this by going to the social studies / science class and clicking on "Classwork" (red arrow below). Then, at the very bottom (green arrow) is your final project. If you think you've typed in the wrong spot, don't worry! I probably already moved it over for you. Take a look, and if your work isn't there, reach out and I will help you! You have all week, and I actually broke down what I think would make sense and hopefully ease the stress on this. Give it a look, and have fun! Perhaps you'll even have time to do a side crank up project. This is definitely a project you can reach out for if you need help. Mrs. Erving and I are happy to help with any piece of this.
Math today starts with Anna wishing you good luck for a reason. One, because she hears me recording and usually insists on saying hello. The second is that this lesson puts a lot of skills together. If it is feeling really frustrating, reach out and we can work on it together. There is also a whole group live practice tomorrow! Come and you may end up in one of my stories... probably eating some type of treat or playing with a cute animal. That's it from me! Office Hours: 8:30 - 9:30 (or 10:00 - 11:00 depending on when Chris naps) 1:00 - 2:00 6:00 - 7:30 Happy Friday! We made it to another fun filled Friday. Did you check out the Mystery Doug for this week? The votes were so close! How dangerous are hurricanes and how paper gets made were tied with 6 votes each. But, why do Zebras have striped won by ONE vote. Don't forget to voice which video you want to have next week. You have been doing amazing work with your famous American project! Next week, you'll have two jobs. You'll make one last slide (where you person is now) but you will also look back at your work you've completed and make sure that it meets expectations. Over the weekend, I will give hints about places you might need to add details or fix punctuation. And adult is welcome to help you, editing and proofing are tricky skills. Mrs. Erving and I miss you all very much! Seeing the pictures your parents send in always puts a smile on our faces. Enjoy this weeks look into your friends' remote learning. Have a great weekend!
